MU Online Season 3, Season 3 Plus and the Summoner Era

Create a free account What's new in Season 22

MU Online Season 3 gave the game its sixth class, the Summoner, and a way to grow beyond level 400 for the first time: Master Level. The Korean service received it in December 2007 under the title Old Promise, along with Elbeland, the Summoner's home town, and Webzen called it the largest update since the game's commercial launch. Season 3 Plus followed in February 2008 with the Swamp of Calmness and the Summoner's 3rd wings. Server files and community lists use Part or Episode numbers instead, and they do not agree on what goes where.

When was the Summoner added to MU Online?

She arrived in Korea in December 2007 as the headline of Season 3, the first new class since the Dark Lord in 2004 and the second female class after the Elf. In Korea any account could create one: unlike the Magic Gladiator and Dark Lord, the Summoner had no level gate. She starts in Elbeland and gains 5 stat points per level.

The Summoner is a ranged caster built on curses and summons. Her launch kit included Drain Life, which heals her as it hits, Chain Lightning, Damage Reflection and Sleep. Season 3 Plus added two debuffs: Weakness, which cuts the damage enemies deal, and Innovation, which cuts their defense.

Her class line runs from Summoner to Bloody Summoner and Dimension Master, and her wings follow the same steps: the first-tier Wings of Curse and second-tier Wings of Despair at launch, then the Wings of Dimension with Season 3 Plus. Her personal master tree came later still: it arrived with Season 5 Part 4, in Korea in late April 2010. For builds and skills as they work now, see our Summoner guide.

How did Master Level work in Season 3?

Level 400 had been the cap since late 2003. Master Level kept it and added a second track on top:

Master characters also got event tiers of their own: Blood Castle 8, Devil Square 7, Chaos Castle 7 and Illusion Temple 6. For the system as it stands today, from level 400 up, read the master level guide.

From 200 master levels to 1400

The system kept changing shape. Season 6 Part 2 cut the four trees to three in 2011, and eX700 (the release players count as Season 7) raised the cap from 200 to 300, on the global service in May 2012 according to Webzen's announcement. A 4th class change, plus the Skill Enhancement Tree, followed in Season 12 Part 2. IGCN's package for Season 22 Part 1-1 caps the total at 1800: level 400 plus 1400 master levels.

What are Elbeland and the Swamp of Calmness?

Elbeland, spelled Elveland on the global site, is the Summoner's home town. Season 3 built it with portals from Devias and Atlans, a town, two hunting areas and eight new monsters between levels 4 and 48, and moved the jewel and Illusion Temple NPCs there. It has kept that hub role: Season 4 put its socket NPCs in Elbeland, the merchant Moss set up there in 2009, and the Crusader, the 16th class, added in Season 21, starts there too.

The Swamp of Calmness, also known as the Swamp of Peace, opened with Season 3 Plus as an endgame map: level 400 and 15,000 Zen to enter, an island layout and nine monster types between levels 95 and 107, all inside the range that gives Master EXP. Season 5 Part 4 later expanded it with new monsters. Both maps are still in the server data IGCN ships for Season 22.

What is MU Online Season 3 Episode 2?

A label from server files and community lists, not from Webzen. Korea released this period as Season 3 and Season 3 Plus and numbered neither parts nor episodes, and the community labels do not line up. Some players and version histories call the two releases Season 3 Part 1 and Part 2. A community version list that uses Episode numbers draws the line elsewhere: its Episode 1 holds the 3rd class change and Illusion Temple, which Korea shipped as Season 2 additions in mid-2007, and its Episode 2 holds the Summoner, Master Level and the new interface.

Rule of thumb: a server labeled Season 3 Episode 2 should have the Summoner and Master Level. If it also has the Swamp of Calmness and the Wings of Dimension, it includes the Season 3 Plus content as well.

How did Season 3 reach the global service?

Later, and never under that name. In May 2008 K2 Network, which then ran the global service, still had no Summoner or 3rd class in the game; it announced both for later that year, the Summoner under the name Blood Summoner. Webzen then resumed running the global service itself, and its beta announcement of April 2009 counted Master Level among the Season 3 and 4 content new to global players. The day the Summoner went live on the global service is not documented in the sources we checked.

Is Season 3 still played in 2026?

Mostly as part of something bigger. Server lists show it as a niche tag, far behind Season 6 in our November 2026 check, and every Season 6 Episode 3 server already contains the whole season. The newest files keep it too: the Summoner, her three wings, Elbeland and the Swamp of Calmness are all in the files IGCN distributes for Season 22. Our MU Online season history traces each piece forward.

Season 3 questions, answered

What was the MU Online Season 3 release date?
Korea received it in December 2007 and Season 3 Plus on February 26, 2008. The global service never used the name; Master Level reached global players with Webzen's 2009 relaunch.
What is the max master level in MU Online?
It was 200 in Season 3, on top of level 400. eX700 raised it to 300, and IGCN's Season 22 Part 1-1 package sets it at 1400, for a total of 1800. Korea's own service raised the total to 1850 in October 2026.
Do you need a high-level character to create a Summoner?
Not under the original Korean rules, where any account could create one. Each private server decides its own creation rules, so check yours before you plan around it.
Is the Swamp of Calmness the same as the Swamp of Peace?
Yes. Both names refer to the level-400 map that came with Season 3 Plus in February 2008.

Your Summoner in Season 22: SilverMU's test realm

The Summoner still has her place among the 16 classes of Season 22, and the Part 1-1 package IGCN made for that season takes the master levels that arrived alongside her up to 1400. That package, version 22.1.1.0, is the base of SilverMU's test realm. No rate or setting counts as final until the news confirms it, and the client becomes downloadable after it is published. Registering costs nothing.
