MU Online at 60 FPS: The Unity Client, Explained

Create a free account The 25 FPS classic update

MU Online at 60 FPS is now a real option for private servers. On October 30, 2026, IGCN, the server-file maker behind many private servers, introduced its high-performance IGC Client, a new version of the MU client made with the Unity 6 engine. It runs at 60 frames per second or more, and high-refresh-rate monitors are supported. It is not a patch for the classic client and not something players can get on their own. Each server decides whether to offer it.

For players the gain is mostly in motion: more than twice the frames of the classic client and smoother animation, on the same maps and models as before.

What is the MU Online Unity client?

The classic MU client runs on the game's original engine, which tops out at 25 FPS. IGCN's recent 25 FPS update for the classic client made that engine hold its ceiling in crowded scenes, but it cannot go past it. The high-performance IGC Client is IGCN's way past that ceiling: the same game, moved onto Unity 6, the version of the Unity engine released in October 2024.

It is IGCN's client for servers that run IGCN's server files, not an official Webzen client. Webzen owns MU Online and runs its own official service; IGCN builds server files and, now, this client.

What does 60+ FPS change when you play?

At 25 FPS each frame stays on screen for 40 milliseconds. At 60 FPS it is about 17. That gap is what you feel when you turn the camera, run across a map or watch a skill effect play out: motion stops looking like a series of steps.

High-refresh-rate monitors

A high-refresh-rate monitor redraws the screen more often than the usual 60 times per second, but it can only show the frames the game delivers. IGCN says its client supports such monitors. It names no specific refresh rate and no upper frame limit, so treat any exact number you see, such as 144 or 240, as unconfirmed.

Interpolated animation

Instead of moving characters and monsters from one position to the next in steps, the client fills in the motion between positions, so they glide rather than hop from spot to spot.

Refreshed lighting, same world

The renderer is new and so is the lighting, but IGCN says it kept the original maps, models and effects. The aim is MU that still looks like MU, with better light on it, rather than a remake with new art.

Window mode, resolution and render scale

All three are chosen inside the game. Window mode and resolution work as in any PC game. Render scale is the one worth learning: it sets the resolution the 3D scene is drawn at, separately from your screen resolution. Lower it on a weak PC to gain speed, or raise it on a strong one for a sharper image.

Is the Unity client just an FPS unlock?

No. An unlock patch edits the old client so it draws more than 25 frames, and IGCN warns that this breaks the classic engine's timing; our 25 FPS article explains what goes wrong. The Unity client does not stretch that engine at all. It is a separate program on a modern engine, which IGCN presented as the next step after its 25 FPS update.

So a download that promises 60 FPS for the classic client is a different thing from this, and often a risky one. Check any client file before you run it, as our client verification guide explains, and get the Unity client only from a server that offers it.

Why will some servers offer it and others not?

The Unity client is not part of the standard package. IGCN sells it to server owners as an optional add-on, the Pro plan, which is bought separately for each server license of its Season 22 Part 1-1 package and billed on the same renewal cycle as that license. Owners who skip it keep the classic client.

That makes the client a decision every server takes separately from the season it runs. Two Season 22 servers can use different clients, so the season label alone does not tell you which client you get. Two more points are worth knowing:

What is still unknown about the Unity client?

Will SilverMU use the 60 FPS client?

Yes, that is the plan. SilverMU starts on IGCN's classic client with the steady 25 FPS update, and moving to the high-performance 60+ FPS client is planned for later. There is no date yet. When it is ready you will read it in the news first, and the download page will list the client you get.

MU Online 60 FPS FAQ

How do I make MU Online run at 60 FPS?
Not on the classic client: its engine stops at 25 FPS, and IGCN says lifting the cap breaks the game's timing. The way to 60+ FPS is a server that offers a modern client such as IGCN's Unity one.
Can I download the Unity client myself?
Not from IGCN. It is licensed per server, so you get it from a server that offers it, through that server's download page.
Do I need a 144 Hz monitor for the Unity client?
No. A standard 60 Hz monitor already shows 60 frames per second. A faster monitor only adds something when the client delivers more than 60, and IGCN has not said how high it goes.
Does the Unity client change how MU looks?
Only the lighting, according to IGCN. The maps, models and effects are the originals, drawn by a new renderer with refreshed light.
When does SilverMU get the 60 FPS client?
It is planned, without a date yet. Until then SilverMU's Season 22 client is the classic one with IGCN's 25 FPS update, and the switch will be announced in the news.
Is the Unity client made by Webzen?
No. It is IGCN's client for private servers that run its server files. Webzen owns MU Online and runs the official service with its own client.

Play the newest season on SilverMU

Whichever client a server ends up with, the season underneath decides what you can do in it. SilverMU's realm is built on Season 22 Part 1-1 (server files 22.1.1.0), and all 16 classes are there, from the renewed Dark Knight, Rage Fighter and Slayer to the Crusader that Season 21 added. Its client already includes IGCN's 25 FPS update, and the 60+ FPS client is planned for later. The realm is still in testing: the final rates and settings come out in the news before launch, and the client goes up on the download page once it is published.
