MU Online Season 5 and the Call of Destiny Updates
MU Online Season 5 put its biggest additions into group play. Its Korean title was Call of Destiny, and between August 2009 and April 2010 it added two event maps for small parties, the Fortress of the Imperial Guardian and Doppelganger, along with a new quest system, the Gens faction war, items up to +15 and the Loren Market. It brought no new class, so the roster stayed at six. Both event maps and Gens are still part of the game in Season 22.

What came in each part of Season 5?
Korea did not number the early updates. The word Part first appeared on the April 2010 update, Part 4, and Parts 1 to 3 are a later count of the updates before it. The global service started its own Season 5 in May 2010, on the May 26 date set by Webzen's launch notice.
Part 1, August 2009: two event maps and a quest system
The launch update opened the Fortress of the Imperial Guardian and Doppelganger, with about 30 new monsters between them. Webzen designed both for teamwork, although Doppelganger can also be run alone. The same update added a new quest system that starts with a tutorial. Both events are explained below.
Part 2, late 2009: Gens
Korea's eighth-anniversary update centered on PvP, and its core was Gens, the faction system explained further down.
Part 3, February 2010: +15 items and the Loren Market
Item enhancement went past +13 for the first time, to +14 and +15. The Loren Market opened as a server for trading, Gens got a ranking, and skill icons gained color. Our item upgrade guide explains how the +1 to +15 ladder works today.
Part 4, late April 2010: the Summoner's master tree
The final part gave the Summoner her own master skill tree, added new quests and expanded four hunting grounds, Aida, Kanturu Ruins, the Swamp of Calmness and Raklion, with new monsters and a mid-boss.
How does the Imperial Guardian event work?
In its Season 5 form, the Fortress of the Imperial Guardian was a party map for two to five players, with these rules:
- One map per day. The fortress had seven maps, one for each day from Monday to Sunday, and the day's map could be entered at any hour.
- Entry items. The Monday to Saturday maps took a Gaion's Order, which five Suspicious Scraps of Paper turn into on their own. Sunday's map took a Complete Secromicon, combined from six fragments that drop from the bosses of the other six maps, so a full week of clears led to Sunday.
- Everyone pays. Each party member needed their own entry item, and it was used up on entry.
- Scaled difficulty. The game set the difficulty from the levels of the characters going in.
- Where to start. Jerint the Assistant, in Devias, sent parties in.
The fortress has been reworked since. Season 18 rebuilt it, and on the global service it reopened in 2023 for level 1,000 and up. A Baruka Entry Ticket replaced the day-based items, each entry now lands on one of the seven maps at random, and clears pay out artifact fragments and upgrade stones; the renewed fortress became the sole source of artifacts there. Webzen's guide lists it as Fortress of Empire: Baruka.
How does a Doppelganger run work?
Doppelganger is a defense run. Rather than hunting freely, you stop monsters from reaching a portal. The Season 5 version went like this:
- Get a Mirror of Dimensions. Five Signs of Dimensions, dropped by monsters across the continent, turn into one. Every party member needs their own.
- Talk to Lugard in Elbeland. Go alone or with up to four others; one of four maps (ice, crystal cave, underwater or flame) is picked at random.
- Hold the line for ten minutes. Monsters charge the portal behind you, and the run fails if three of them get through.
- Fight the bosses. Butcher bosses lead the bigger waves, and beating one can leave treasure chests, though a chest may hide a monster instead of loot.
Doppelganger kept changing as well. IGCN's Season 22 data holds both the four original maps and a set of renewed ones, and Season 21 re-sorted the event into level brackets with monsters scaled to each; the Part 1-1 files have seven, the highest for level 1700 and up. Along the way, Season X gathered the entry NPCs of both Season 5 events, together with those of Blood Castle, Devil Square, Chaos Castle and Illusion Temple, in one Event Map Square.
What is Gens in MU Online?
Gens is MU's faction system, and Season 5 introduced it. Each character pledges to one of two rival families, Duprian or Vanert, and contribution points come from beating players who chose the other side; those points decide your Gens rewards. Webzen pitched it as the first group PvP system since Castle Siege, and Part 3 added a Gens ranking in February 2010.
Seventeen years later, the two families still carry the same names in IGCN's Season 22 server files, one of the clearest straight lines from Call of Destiny to the current season.
Is there a Season 5 private server?
Rarely under that label. On November 3, 2026, we tallied the season labels on one MU server list: none said Season 5, and Season 6 was the most common. Season 5 lives on inside those servers, though: a Season 6 Episode 3 build carries all of its headline content, from Imperial Guardian and Doppelganger to Gens and +15 items.

Season 5's legacy and SilverMU's Season 22
Season 5's ideas lasted: the Imperial Guardian fortress, a portal-defense run and a two-family faction war all sit in Season 22's server data, renewed and re-leveled along the way. SilverMU's realm runs on the Part 1-1 build of Season 22 (server files 22.1.1.0), where the six classes that played Call of Destiny stand alongside ten that came later. The MU Online season history shows where Season 5 sits between Season 4 and Season 6.
SilverMU is still testing, so nothing about its rates or settings is fixed yet; a news post will set them out before launch. When the client is released, the download page is where to get it, and accounts cost nothing.
