How MU Online Season 17 Added Two Classes at Once
MU Online Season 17 opened with the only patch in MU's history that added two playable classes at once: White Wizard "Kundun Mephis" and Mage "Lemuria" (the Light Wizard and Lemuria Mage in IGCN's server files), a teacher and a student built to fight side by side. Its second half belonged to the Fairy Elf, rebuilt for both of her play styles, and along the way the season added the Shining Tail guardian and three hunting grounds: Old Kethotum, Burning Kethotum and Kanturu Underground. The Korean service ran it from September 2021 to September 2022; global players got it from July 2022.

Who are Kundun Mephis and Lemuria?
Both are copies. In the official lore, a sage who unlocked the secret of the Doppelganger Fortress made good twins of Kundun, MU's great villain, and of his student Lemuria, to stop the originals. The twins kept their teacher-student bond. NPCs in Lorencia sell their low-level gear and skill books.
White Wizard Kundun Mephis, the Light Wizard
Webzen built Kundun Mephis as the Dark Wizard's opposite: he casts holy spells fueled by Light Energy, with a staff in his main hand and a magic book in the other. His magic hits hard but his defense is low, and Energy powers his spells. Next to borrowed Dark Wizard spells, his launch skills were Magical Shot, Shining Bird (a bird of light that sweeps through a group), Dragon Violent (Violent Dragon on the global service), Spear Storm and Reflection Barrier, a party buff that blocks damage and reflects a share of it. On SilverMU, which uses IGCN's names, he is the Light Wizard.
Mage Lemuria, the Lemuria Mage
Lemuria is the hybrid of the pair. She carries an orb, with a Dark Wizard shield in her off hand, and attacks with balls of energy: Marble Burst blows up on one target and the monsters around it, and Unleash Marble leaves a large sphere that keeps firing for a while. Her other launch skills were Magical Shot and Ultimate Force. She also has lighter versions of the Elf's bless, heal, defense, attack and SD-recovery spells, whose buffs do not stack with an Elf's. Like her teacher she is fragile and builds Energy. IGCN's files spell two of her skills "Marvel Burst" and "Unleash Marvel"; our Lemuria Mage guide covers her class line.
Why the pair works best together
Put the two in one party and a Bond Buff switches on: both of them deal more damage, the rest of the party gets a smaller bonus, and the buff fades if the party breaks up or the two drift too far apart. A bonding cord also links them and damages any monster that touches it, though it does nothing in PvP. Webzen's Kundun Mephis and Lemuria guide lists the details.
Light Wizard, White Wizard or Kundun Mephis: which name is right?
All three, depending on where you play. Webzen's global service uses the story names, IGCN's server files use class names, and "Kundun Memphis" is a common misspelling in searches.
| IGCN files and SilverMU | Webzen global service | Season 17 part |
|---|---|---|
| Light Wizard | White Wizard: Kundun Mephis | 1-1, new class |
| Lemuria Mage | Mage: Lemuria | 1-1, new class |
| Elf | Fairy Elf | 2-2, renewal |
| Earrings of Daze | Earrings of Allurement | 2-1, 5th mastery earrings |
On the global service the class lines run White Wizard, Light Master, Shine Wizard for Kundun Mephis, and Mage, War Mage, Archmage for Lemuria. One more trap: a search for "MU Online White Wizard" also turns up the White Wizard Invasion, a much older event with a boss of that name. It has nothing to do with the class.
What else did Season 17 Part 1 add?
Part 1-1 (Korean service, September 28, 2021) brought the classes and a few small interface changes; the next two parts, three weeks apart, built the endgame around them.
Part 1-2: Kethotum and level 1400
On October 19, 2021, two hunting grounds opened at very different levels: Old Kethotum at entry level 700 and Burning Kethotum at 1160. The level cap rose from 1350 to 1400 (Master Level 1000), and the older classes got the next steps of the mastery gear line: Manticore weapons (7th tier, level 1200) and Celestial Brilliant armor (8th tier, level 1300).
Part 1-3: Burning Kethotum Elite Zone
On November 9, 2021, Burning Kethotum gained an Elite Zone with elite versions of its three monsters, the Crimson Lycan, Crimson Minos and Crimson Harpy. Nixie Lake (from Season 12) and Kubera Mine (from Season 14) were rebalanced, and the two new classes caught up with 4th wings and higher mastery gear.
What did Season 17 Part 2 change for the Elf?
Part 2 opened on the Korean service on April 19, 2022 with Kanturu Underground, a new hunting ground below Kanturu with an entry level of 1190. The level cap went from 1400 to 1450 (Master Level 1050), and the 5th mastery earrings, Allurement, arrived at level 850 (left) and 900 (right).
On May 10, 2022, Part 2-2 rebuilt the Fairy Elf around her two builds:
- Attack Elf (Agility): faster attacks with bows, crossbows and quivers, a Dex Booster self-buff for movement speed, attack speed and hit rate, the new Raining Arrow, and Focus Shot reworked into a guided arrow that hits several targets.
- Support Elf (Energy): Elemental Attack Boost and Elemental Defense Boost, which only work on characters wearing an elemental pentagram, a single-target Holy Bolt, a Party Heal that now reaches every party member, and a line of seven mastery Fairy Shields, from Bloodangel at level 400 to Manticore at level 1200.
These details come from the Korean patch notes. When the renewal reached the global service, every Elf could reset her stats and 3rd and 4th skill trees for free. Our Elf guide compares the bow and support builds.
The rest of Part 2 added the 4th guardian, Shining Tail (level 1100, normal and rare), a Kanturu Underground Elite Zone with the Underground Persona, Twin Tail and Dread Fear, and an Elemental Elf Muun, which the global service handed out for reaching level 1,400.
When was MU Online Season 17 released?
Korea first, global players about ten months later. The Korean service ran Season 17 from September 28, 2021 to September 27, 2022. Webzen's global service launched Part 1 on July 19, 2022, with the new classes playable only on a Speed Server at first; from August 16 they could also be created on the original servers, and that update brought the Kethotum maps and level 1,400. Global Part 2 followed on January 31, 2023, and the Elf renewal on February 21, 2023.
Private servers keep a third calendar. IGCN, a maker of MU Online server files, uses the Korean part numbers; its only Season 17 announcement, Season 17 Part 2 on June 17, 2022, bundles the Korean Parts 2-1 and 2-2. So the Elf renewal reached IGCN's files about five weeks after Korea and eight months before Webzen's global servers.
Which classes are in MU Online Season 17?
Thirteen by the end of the season: Dark Wizard, Dark Knight, Elf, Magic Gladiator, Dark Lord, Summoner, Rage Fighter, Grow Lancer, Rune Wizard, Slayer, Gun Crusher, Light Wizard and Lemuria Mage. The next newcomer, the Illusion Knight, opened Season 18 a year later.
Can you still play Season 17 content in 2026?
Yes, inside newer seasons. IGCN's public change log no longer lists a Season 17 series, but the content carried forward: IGCN's Season 22 package still includes Old Kethotum, Burning Kethotum and Kanturu Underground, and both classes are among the 16 in Season 22.
Later seasons built on it: Season 18's guardian Ullr is made from a Shining Tail, the earrings continued with Unity, Foliage and Frost, and Season 21's class renewal reworked the Elf a second time and adjusted the Lemuria Mage.
