MU Online Season 15 and the Arrival of the Slayer
MU Online Season 15 is the season of the Slayer, MU's tenth class: a human fused with a bat-like demon, fighting with short swords and built for speed. It went live in Korea on September 24, 2019 and on the global service on July 14, 2020, both times with speed servers to launch the new class. The season also opened two hunting grounds, Scorched Canyon and Red Smoke Icarus, a map global players know as Crimson Flame's Icarus.

Who is the Slayer in MU Online?
In the story, the Slayer was born human, and Kundun's experiments later fused the body with a bat-like demon, which is why Webzen's global service sums the class up as part human, part bat. It is a physical class that draws on Strength and Agility and is built to hit fast and hard. In a fight it relies on short swords: some skills send the blades flying, others carry the Slayer straight through a pack of monsters.
Webzen's Slayer class guide names three stages, Slayer, Royal Slayer and Master Slayer, which are also the names in IGCN's Season 22 data. According to the same guide, any account can create a Slayer, while the Grow Lancer once needed a character above level 200 on the account, and new Slayers start in Lorencia. The class's own skills include Sword Inertia, Bat Flock, Pierce Attack and Detection.
According to a fan report of the Korean patch, the Slayer arrived with its own armor sets and weapons, its 4th class quest, its Skill Enhancement Tree and its 4th wings, all in the first update. For builds and gear, see the Slayer class page and our Slayer guide.
Was the Slayer added in Season 15 or Season 16?
Season 15, on both services. Korea announced the Slayer on September 18, 2019 and opened it with Part 1 six days later. Global players got it with Part 1 on July 14, 2020, at first only on the new speed server, two weeks after Webzen announced pre-registration on June 30.
The mix-up is easy to make. Global Slayers were barely two months old when Korea opened Season 16 on September 15, 2020, and that season's new class, the Gun Crusher, followed the same launch recipe one year after the Slayer. A list that files the Slayer under Season 16 is one season late.
How did the Season 15 speed servers work?
Season 14 had launched the Rune Mage next to a speed server, and Season 15 kept the idea. In Korea it ran like this:
- A fresh start. Three speed servers opened with the Slayer and stayed up for about five weeks, until October 31, 2019.
- A level ceiling. Characters on the speed servers could reach level 700.
- A transfer. From October 22, characters could move to the regular servers, with rewards based on the level they had reached.
The global Part 1 in July 2020 also centered on a speed server, with transfers to the regular servers afterwards. Season 16 reused the formula for the Gun Crusher, and later seasons kept launching new classes the same way.
Scorched Canyon and Red Smoke Icarus: Season 15's maps
Scorched Canyon (Part 1)
Scorched Canyon opened with Part 1. Fan coverage of the Korean patch lists it with an elite zone, and the global service added it with the August 11, 2020 update, when Webzen ran launch bonuses in the canyon's elite zone and raised the level cap to 1200. In IGCN's map list it sits between Season 14's Abyss Atlans and Red Smoke Icarus, and it is still part of IGCN's Season 22 data.
Red Smoke Icarus, or Crimson Flame's Icarus (Part 2)
Part 2 went live in Korea in late April 2020 and on the global service on January 26, 2021. Its new map is an elemental hunting ground in the skies of Icarus, so you need wings to enter it. The Korean version opened at level 1070. Its monsters drop Elemental Symbols that combine into pentagram and mastery materials, and during the global launch event they also dropped Golden Crests, one of the main 4th-wing materials, as Webzen's Season 15 Part 2 release describes. The map's elite zone followed in Korea on May 11, 2020, with Part 2-2.
What else changed in Season 15?
- Second Guardian (Korea, Part 2-2): the Korean patch note of May 11, 2020 is titled after the second Guardian and the Icarus elite zone. A fan report dates the first Guardian to Season 14.
- Earring of Glory: the third tier of mastery earrings, which Webzen's global guide files under Season 15 Part 2-1, worn from level 750 (left) and 800 (right). Season 16 later made it the base for the Earring of Blood.
- Mastery gear (reportedly): a fan-site recap of the Korean Part 1 lists the Silver Heart mastery armor, Blue Eye weapons, a renewed Skill Enhancement Tree and changed entry levels for events. Our mastery gear guide shows where Silver Heart sits on today's ladder.
- Level cap: Webzen's event page for the August 2020 global update announced a cap of 1200, and a community compilation of Webzen's notes lists 1250 after Part 2. Korean coverage of Part 2 mentions a higher cap but gives no figure.
Is Season 15 content still in Season 22?
Yes. The Slayer is one of the 16 classes in Season 22 and has been rebuilt twice since its debut: in the Combat Power renewal of Season 18, and in Season 22 Part 1-1, which gave it Darkness attack power and a wider Pierce Attack. Scorched Canyon and Red Smoke Icarus are both still in IGCN's Season 22 map list, although each server decides which maps it opens.
